Hello, this is a review on my recent excursion of Sigiriya Rock.

Sigiriya Rock is a sky fortress in Sri Lanka from the fifth century. what is sometimes considered as the eighth wonder of the world has many things of interest such as the ancient frescoes ( paintings ), the mirror wall and the many fascinating structures at the foot of the rock; but this article is focused on the journey to the top of this amazing spectacle.

When you begin your ascent, all you will be able hear is the constant buzzing of the hornets that make nest on the face of Sigiriya; but do not be deterred by this, as hornet attacks are very rare, so as long as you follow the advice on the warning signs, you should be perfectly safe. After a few flights of stairs you will reach the lions foot.

By this point, me and my family were exhausted with the heat, and many people were turning back, but we pushed on, and soon after, we had made it to the top.

Useful advice for climbing Sigiriya

  1. Do not underestimate the heat. You will need more water than you think, so please don’t make the mistake that my family did and only bring one bottle each.

2. Wear practical clothing: going up the rock in sandals and jeans is not advised, but please bring a sunhat.

If you happen to be visiting Sri Lanka, please don’t miss Sigiriya Rock on your trip
